The Approach dimension's main purpose is to describe the degree of joint efforts in case of Dual or Multiple distinct entities involved into developing independently of each other.

Cooperative

The developers agree to work together to reach their common goals. Part of or all results are shared among the developers. Possibly the most desirable approach to the development of molecular manufacturing, since uncertainty among the developers about the others´ capabilities might be reduced; progress might be more efficient since double work can be avoided; technical, social and other issues that arise might be solved quicker and more thorough.

Competitive

The developers attempt to get ahead of each other in the development process. This might be achieved by

• increasing the allocated resources
• gathering useful intelligence on a competitor´s project
• limiting a competitor´s capability to maintain his project, possibly by military means.

Seperate

The developers neither compete nor cooperate.
